Projects In Corby

  • Giving young people a voice in Corby

Through lottery and Youthworks funding, Ann-Marie Lawson is working with young people to improve the Exeter Estate in Corby. After several months of low-key engagement, the project now has over fifty regular participants and is beginning to make a noticeable difference to the neighbourhood.
Much is planned for the next eighteen months but the word is already out: many of those involved helped out at the recent Corby Youth Conference where 100 pupils from local schools discussed issues that affected them. Others have been involved in the Identity project, using photography to explore their identity and that of their neighbourhoods. Not
only do they gain a new skill, they also acquire a great set of mages to count towards their Youth Achievement Awards.

  • West Glebe Park

Working with Corby Borough Council and the Friends of the Park, Groundwork has produced a Landscape Plan for West Glebe Park, identifying improvements that people would like to see, including better, well lit paths and entrances, play facilities and habitats to encourage wildlife. Work on path improvements is now well underway.  Groundwork and the Friends of the Park are also working together on the West Glebe Heritage Project, uncovering the park’s extensive history.

  • Studfall Avenue Community Park

Working with the local community to redevelop and enhance an area of green space for play and recreation. Funded by the Big Lottery, through Peoples Millions, and Corby Borough Council.

The project is nearing completion, and the Park will be open again in early May 2007.  Activities will be taking place throughout the summer to encourage positive use of the area, by the whole community.

See and hear about the transformation of the Park from local young people on Google Earth* by clicking this link: Studfall Avenue Park.
