Kate Williams has spent a lot of
time in recent months working with young people on the Highfields
estate in Rushden, helping them to identify how they can make best
use of green spaces in the neighbourhood. Through litter picks,
design competitions and a summer activity scheme, the thoughts of
young people have helped to develop a plan for
sites across Highfield which is now being acted upon. With the
support of many partners including local authority, Community
Safety Partnership & Police, new play equipment
has already been installed on Rose Avenue Park whilst plans are
afoot for the transformation of a local, underused 'pocket
park’ and for the creation of new spaces for sport.
Working alongside East
Northamptonshire District Council’s ‘HIP’
(Highfield Improvement Project), Groundwork secured the services of
Barclaycard to help paint a church hall and
create a community garden. Over the course of two days over twenty
staff worked with local people to transform these spaces into
places that the whole community can use and
even featured on Anglia TV for their efforts! We can provide full
support with companies wishing to get more involved in their local
community - please do get in touch for more details.
